Liturgical Ministries at Sunday Mass

Jesus & the Eucharist

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The Pastor or Pastoral Associate invites these ministers to the ministry. People are asked to inquire about the ministry. After the initial training, Extraordinary Ministers are asked to attend a training session at least once a year. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve three year terms that may be renewed after a year off the schedule. A parishioner serves as coordinator of this ministry and assists in scheduling, communication, and training.

Lectors

These ministers proclaim the Word at Mass. You may be asked or may inquire to join this ministry. After the initial training, Lectors are asked to attend a training session at least once a year. There is a three year term limit on this ministry. A parishioner serves as coordinator of this ministry and assists in scheduling, training, and communication.

Ministers of Hospitality

These ministers assist the assembly at the Mass. You may be asked or may inquire to join this ministry. After the initial training, you are asked to attend a training session at least once a year. There is currently no term limit on this ministry.

To be involved with the above ministries, one must fill out a diocesan volunteer form, have a background check, and go through Protecting God's Children training. Call Parish Office for information, 336-272-4681.

Altar Servers

Anyone fourth grade or above of either gender may inquire about becoming an altar server. After the initial training, you attend a training session at least once a year, or when necessary. There is currently no term limit on this ministry. This ministry is coordinated out of the parish office. Please call 336-272-4681 for more information.

Music Ministry

Saint Pius X has a dynamic music ministry led by the Music Minister, Sallie Kelton. There are various sized choirs and instrumentalists at all Masses except the 7:30 am Mass. If interested in participating in any of the music ministries, contact the parish office. Practices are weekly.

  • Children’s Choir is for children from kindergarten to fifth grade. The choir sings at various liturgies throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to call the parish office if interested. Director: Sallie Kelton

  • The Handbell Choir is open to any high school age youth or adult. Reading music is not required. This is an excellent ministry for the person who has a love of music without instrumental experience. The Choir practices weekly and plays at selected masses throughout the year as well as performing in the community. They are in constant need of substitutes, those who read music well and have good timing. Director: Brian Otter

  • The Sound Technician runs the sound board to assure the choir is mixed well and the order of the mass is heard well throughout the church. Knowledge of mixing boards is helpful but not required. Coordinator: Sallie Kelton

Sacristans

These ministers prepare the altar and church for liturgy. Their responsibilities include laundering linens and vestments, organizing and placing items used in the liturgy, and general upkeep of the church. Anyone of any age or gender may inquire about becoming a sacristan. Coordinator: Kim Briskey

Gift Bearers

Parishioners are needed at each mass to bring the gifts to the altar.  This is a meaningful way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or special event.  Anyone may participate.  To set up a date, contact Shawn Trego.

For further information, in addition to contacting the various leaders listed, you may contact Wendy Barber, Administrative Assistant, at the parish office.  Up-to-date schedules and ministry lists can be found at the parish WeGather site.
