Sunshine Club Opens Hearts
Filled with fun and fellowship for the past 18 years, the Sunshine Club is an outreach ministry of St Pius X that provides social and recreational activities to developmentally disabled adults in Guilford County. More than 60 participants, or "Sunshine friends" meet on the first Friday of every month (schedule does sometimes change) to enjoy dinner and bingo, dances, pizza parties, holiday parties, karaoke, and movie nights.
There are few opportunities for this group of adults to socialize and we are happy to provide a welcoming place here at St Pius for the Sunshine Club to meet. The Sunshine Club celebrates life, as well as changes lives for the participants and the volunteers. Participants enjoy having the time to socialize with their friends. The time also provides a respite for caregivers. With more than 7 of the volunteers teens or family groups, the Sunshine Club provides an opportunity to teach parish youth about the value of all life.
Volunteering is not a big time commitment. If you would like to drop off a meal item for the volunteers to serve, please go to our Sign Up Genius, HERE, to do so. More information is available on the sign up.
If you or your ministry group would like to help serve the food and participate with the Sunshine friends, please email Krisan, HERE.
