In January 1999 Deacon Ron Steinkamp became the first deacon assigned to St Pius X parish. He and his wife, Bette, are natives of Quincy IL. He has a BS in Economics from the University of Illinois and came to NC in 1988 with his employment via Massachusetts, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Virginia. One of eleven men ordained for the diocese of Charlotte in the 1995 class, he and his wife have been active in the Cursillo Movement and the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. He completed a three year term as clergy Spiritual Advisor for the Diocesan Cursillo Movement in 2009; he now serves as the Director of the Permanent Diaconate for the Diocese of Charlotte with his appointment by the bishop in 2011. He completed his Master of Theological Studies degree in 2010 from Quincy University, a school of the Franciscan tradition (OFM) attending summer sessions for four years. At the parish he is a volunteer Tribunal Advocate assisting with marriage annulments, with his wife he leads bible studies, assists at RCIA, and is active in the Knights of Columbus as well as the regular diaconal activities of infant baptisms, funerals and marriages. He and his wife have long had a particular engagement in the evangelization apostolate with diocesan and national rallies and conferences and they wholeheartedly embrace the work of the New Evangelization as proposed by Pope John Paul II with continued emphasis by Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
