Deacon Phil was born in Richmond, VA on January 17, 1957 and raised in Virginia, New Jersey, and Georgia. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) where he met his wife Kathy with whom he has been married for over 33 years. They have two children and two grandchildren. Deacon Phil studied for the Diaconate at the Pastoral Center for the Archdiocese of Washington in Washington, DC from 1991-1994 and was ordained to the Diaconate on September 17, 1994 and assigned to Mother Seton Parish in Germantown, MD. Deacon Phil came to the Diocese of Charlotte in 2002 and was assigned to St. Pius X on July 1st of that year. Deacon Phil has been involved in the following ministries for both the Diocese of Charlotte and the Archdiocese of Washington: Baptismal Preparation; Pre-Cana Formation; RCIA Formation team; Funerals; Faith Formation; Bible study and faith formation at Thea House on the campus of NC A&T State University; Knights of Columbus (active 3rd/4th degree knight); Diaconate Formation Program for the Diocese of Charlotte.
Deacon Phil has worked for over 33 years in the IT field primarily with mainframe computers in an application development role. He has been in a variety of industries including check printing, aerospace, online services, financial, and insurance, to name just a few.
